Some beads have a pretty uniform coloring, others may have tiny streaks of golden color (sometimes called "Golden Shungite"). Most of these bracelets have a mix of both kinds of beads.
The price of Shungite has gone up this year, all across the globe. The family I work with told me again this winter that it's because it has become more difficult to get the rough material due to a high demand for it.
They measure approximately 7 7/8" - 8" inches around (unstretched) and stretch to about 8 1/2" inches comfortably, without large gaps in the beads.
Although Shungite looks similar to Hematite or Jet, it is NOT either of those stones. Shungite is a very special and unusual mineral! It is a great personal protection stone. It's black with an almost metallic lustre. The largest deposit in the Earth comes from the Karelia region of Russia. Shungite contains fullerenes (this fact and mineral were discovered in 1992). The scientists that discovered fullerenes were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1996 for their role in the discovery of these fascinating molecules.
There are subtle organic areas throughout from inclusions that were close to the surface as the stones were polished. They mainly resemble fine lines/linear indents, or tiny pinpricks/indents in the stone.
